I am a passionate patient advocate. The specialty of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) is a way to advocate for the patient even though I no longer provide bedside care. A complete and accurate medical record helps with information for the patient and the next provider in their care continuum. CDI specialists serve as a resource for physicians, advanced practice practitioners and residents. The specificity of documentation that translates into ICD-10 codes reflecting how sick the patient was during the hospitalization are not taught in the medical school curriculum.
I am a lifelong learner and enjoy mentoring others. I seek out mentors for my own for professional and personal growth. Some of my most valuable learning opportunities have included Crucial Conversations, Emotional Intelligence and True Colors. I gained leadership and strategic education earning my BSN and from my MBA coursework. I keep up to date about trends and new initiatives in CDI with my membership in the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS), the Florida Chapter of ACDIS and the ACDIS Leadership Council as well as attending live and virtual conferences and summits.
I enjoy being a member of the Radiant Ridge Toastmasters Club #5807, traveling, outdoors, stained glass, gardening and pets.
